Hello Again,

Throne of Eldraine spoilers showed a few interesting new cards, The Royal Scions beeing one of them. A card that looked so strong on paper I thought it was fake at first, monstly because of it´s starting loyality of 5 on a 3 mana Walker.

The Royal Scions - Throne of Eldraine Spoiler 1

Abilitywise The Royal Scions are a mix between Dack Fayden and Elspeth,Knight Errant. Pumping creatures or giving card selection combined with extraordinary high loyality at competitive 3 Mana.

Instead of talking about how awesome this new walker duo is I thought it would be refreshing to list the 10 best cards to use them with. Keep in mind that this is just my personal opinion which is, as usual, open for discussion. So let´s jump straight in.

Number 10

Grenzo, Havoc Raiser

Grenzo is a gem. He sees play in Duel Commander and has yet to make an impact in Highlander. I only faced him once so far and was super impressed. He can hit a land but multiple creatures trigger individually so it will hit something good in time. There is a chance that The Royal Scions might help to get him the recognition he deserves.

Number 9

Cold-Eyed Selkie

I haven´t seen someone play this card for a decade, which is no suprise given it is only a 1/1 for 3 arkward mana. Still I feel it might get a comeback in some sort of Temur shell. With cards like Rythm of the Wild and The Royal Scions it seems possible. If you +1 this guy and connect the game will most likely be over in your favour soon.

Number 8

Llanowar Elves (M19)

Mana Elf

Some people say Mana Elves are not worth it anymore with the new mulligan rule. I don´t know about that. What I know is that there is no downside in casting a 3 Mana loyality 5 walker with 3 powerful abilities turn 2. The Royal Scions can pump our little Elves or loot them away from our hands in the lategame. Again, why wouldn´t I want that?

Number 7

Bitterblossom

Not a Creature, but something better. The Scions will love these little Tokens, attack for 3 in the Air while producing blockers until they can ultimate away. this will be an extremely annoying combo to play against.

Number 6

Gurmag Angler (UMA)

Gurmag Angler

It is possible to play our Fishfriend as early as turn 2 and now it´s mayor downside, having no evasion and beeing „only“ a 5/5 can now be easily fixed. A 7/5 trample, first striker, balanced I might say.

Number 5

Bomat Courier (KLD)

Bomat Courier

Bomat Courier sees alot of play in Highlander, mainly because the mayority of players loves drawing additional cards I think. His problem is that he cannot always attack, luckily The Royal Scions can help with that and transform him into a effective beater.

Number 4

Goblin Rabblemaster (DDT)

Goblin Rabblemaster

Like his Cousins Krenko, Tin Street Kingpin and Legion Warboss, Goblin Rabblemaster can dish out insane amounts of damage if left unchecked. The Royal Scions make him a Monster. You can still block the smaller goblins though, if not the game will be over really fast.

Number 3

Seeker of the Way (IMA)

Seeker of the Way

Maybe you feel it is odd that I rate this card that high. But think about it for a second, Seeker can attack as a 5/3 lifelink, trample, first strike creature on turn 3. Decks like Scape or RDW might have a hard time dealing with that. Which Deck doesn`t really?

Number 2

Geist of Saint Traft (DDQ)

Geist of Saint Traft

This one is obvious, the only thing that balanced this guy was his fragile body. Now we can attack for 8 easily against almost anything, not much more to say here.

Number 1

Dreadhorde Arcanist (WAR)

Dreadhorde Arcanist

You had it comming, everyone loves the Arcanist. Now we have way to abuse him even more without having to play subpar pump spells. Can´t wait to recast demonic tutor for free and don`t get me started on all the sweet removal. For me the uncontested number one card to use with The Royal Scions.

I hope you enjoyed my little list. Until next time,

bye
